The Orchestra

The “Kyiv Camerata” orchestra occupies a leading place among the orchestras of Ukraine and is the first performer of hundreds of works by modern Ukrainian composers.
“Kyiv Сamerata” is an orchestra where every musician is a virtuoso and a solo performer. This is a team with a clear mission — the promotion of Ukrainian music in all the colorful styles, currents, and compositional schools. However, the repertoire of the orchestra is constantly renewed and covers a wide musical range: from the ancient music of baroque masters to the works of modern composers.
Among the Ukrainian authors who collaborated and wrote for the ensemble, we can find dozens of names — from the classics of modern music to young composers seeking a new sound. Valentin Sylvestrov, Yevgen Stankovych, Myroslav Skoryk, Ivan Karabyts, Oleg Kiva, Vitaly Gubarenko, Yuriy Ishchenko, Levko Kolodub, Leonid Grabovskyi, Volodymyr Zubytskyi and Lesya Dychko, Hanna Havrylets, Zoltan Almashi, Yuliya Gomelska, Carmella Tsepkolenko and many others composed music for the orchestra. other artists.
The “Kyiv Camerata” performed in the USA, England, Poland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Austria, Armenia, Georgia, and other countries. During the war, from September 2 to 12, 2023, the orchestra's sold—out tour took place in Germany. In October 2022, a concert was held in Tbilisi as part of the “Art without borders” project.

 

History of creation:

“Kyiv Camerata” was founded in 1977 when the collective at the beginning of its creative journey existed under the conditions of an enterprise, as the Chamber Music Ensemble of the Union of Composers of Ukraine.
August 19, 1993 — received the status of “State”.
In 2000, for a significant contribution to the development of Ukrainian musical art and culture, the orchestra was awarded the status of “National“.
Valery Matyukhin, a prominent Ukrainian conductor, pianist, laureate of the National Taras Shevchenko Prize, People's Artist of Ukraine, is the founder, long—term director and artistic director of the “Kyiv Camerata” orchestra.
At different times, prominent musical figures of the country — Myroslav Skoryk, Ivan Karabyts and Myroslav Skoryk — worked with the team as artistic directors.Valery Matyuhin died in the spring of 2023. This was a great loss not only for the team but also for the entire musical community in the country. The orchestra continues the work of its longtime leader and mentor.
In 2023, the famous violinist and soloist of the orchestra Bohdana Pivnenko became the general director and artistic director of the orchestra.

 

Participation in festivals:

“Kyiv Camerata” orchestra participated in many international festivals: Musical dialogues “Estonia—Ukraine”, “Ukraine — Austria”, “Ukraine — Finland”, “Ukraine — Azerbaijan”, “Ukraine — Germany”, “Days of Ukrainian Music in Warsaw”, “Days of Ukrainian Culture” in London.
Among the Ukrainian festivals and projects: “Two Days and Two Nights of New Music” (Odesa), “Bouquet Kyiv Stage”, Kyiv Music Fest, “Contrasts” (Lviv National Philharmonic), “Summer Music Rays”, Levka Kolodub Music Festival, “ December Evenings” (Zhytomyr Regional Philharmonic named after S. Richter), “Music premieres of the season”, “Stankovich—fest.” All—Ukrainian Festival “Mirror” (Lviv National Opera).

Bogdana Pivnenko has performed as a soloist with leading Ukrainian orchestras and presented Ukrainian music around the world, including Berliner Philharmonie, Weill Hall Carnegie Hall, Palau de la Musica Catalana, Berliner Festspiele MaerzMusik, Europaisches Klassik Festival, “Kyiv Music Fest”, The Warsaw Autumn, “Nostalgia”, Malta Festival.

She regularly participates in premiere performances of works by contemporary Ukrainian composers. She presented the author’s program of Valentin Silvetrov’s “Melodies of Moments” together with the composer.

Her recordings include Anthology of Contemporary Ukrainian Music, 11 CDs of music by Ukrainian composer M. Skoryk, V. Silvestrov, E. Stankovych, V. Zubytsky, Z. Almashi, I. Shcherbakov, O. Levkovych.

Most recently, her Ukrainian Quintet, featuring music by Lyatoshynsky, Silvestrov and Poleva, was released by Naxos in 2020.

Many of leading Ukrainian composers have dedicated works to Bogdana Pivnenko.

Among them are Valentine Silvestrov (who dedicated two cycles for violin and piano to me), Yevhen Stankovych (who dedicated his Concerto No. 4), Volodymyr Zubytsky (who dedicated his Concerto No. 1) and Zoltan Almashi (who dedicated his Seasons), Viktoria Poleva (who dedicated “Soul”)

She has worked with conductors, such as Antony Inglis, Juozas Domarkas, Vladimir Sirenko, Saulius Sondeckis, Oksana Lyniv Volodymyr Shejko, Theodore Kuchar, Natalya Ponomarchuk, Erki Pehk, Liutauras Balciunas and others.

Artistic director and chief conductor of the chamber orchestra „Seasons” .

Professor of the Dnipro Academy of Music.

In 2009-2011, he was the chief conductor of the National Chamber Ensemble “Kyiv Soloists”.

Since 2013, he has been the artistic director of the International Music Festival “Music without Borders” (Dnipro).

Toured with the symphony and chamber orchestras of Great Britain, Israel, Germany, Switzerland.

Since March 2018, Maestro Logvin has the honor of conducting performances of the National Opera of Ukraine, as well as numerous concerts with the Odesa National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dnipro Academic Symphony Orchestra, etc.

In 2010, a concert by the Great Symphony Orchestra and the legend of world rock music, one of the creators of Deep Purple, Sir John Lord, was held in Kyiv under the direction of Dmytro Logvin.
